Central DuPage Hospital gets OK to build 202-bed wing
"Despite concerns about the project's size and scope, the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board Tuesday approved the hospital's plans to build a 202-bed wing on its sprawling Winfield campus ... The project will be financed by a combination of bonds and nearly $82 million in cash and securities.
Hoffman squad cars to go even higher-tech
"The system allows video to be wirelessly uploaded to a computer server stored at the police station over a 4.9 Ghz frequency.  Computer equipment utilizing that frequency isn't available to civilians, giving police a secure channel to transmit potentially sensitive information wirelessly ... District falls short of AYP goal

Imprisoned man indicted in '96 murder of child

Downs, also known as Mark Garcia, 31, was indicted Oct. 12 on two counts of first degree murder for his alleged involvement in Nicholas "Nico" Contreras' death.  The boy had recently celebrated his sixth birthday and was asleep in a bed with his 8-year-old cousin at his grandmother's home at about 5 a.m. Nov. 10, 1996, when he was shot twice in the back. He died instantly."
