District #33 Announces Family Night
WeGo Together For Kids, a project of West Chicago Elementary School District #33 and community partners as part of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students grant, announces the first of a series of six Family Nights that will take place throughout the current school year. Family Nights are designed to promote health by educating families together in a fun way.
Taking Care of Your Family: A night about food and fitness, the first in the series, will take place on Tuesday, September 26 in the cafeteria at West Chicago Middle School beginning at 6:00 PM. All District #33 families are invited to this special event. The evening begins with dinner, which includes roasted chicken and beverages. Families are asked to bring a dish to pass.
The program begins at 6:45 PM with a salsa dancing demonstration by Saga Dance Studio of West Chicago. At 7:15 PM, parents and children will engage in separate activities. Parents will meet with Ellen Jackson and Yolanda Escobedo from the Family Nutrition Program of the University of Illinois Extension Service, to learn healthy meal planning. Children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade will enjoy nutrition related games and activities with Benedictine University Nutrition Program staff. Programs are provided in both English and Spanish. The evening concludes with a raffle for participants at 8:00 PM.
"The theme for Family Night for this entire year is 'Taking Care of Your Family'", said Marjory Lewe-Brady, WeGo Together for Kids Project Director. "We encourage families to spend some quality time together, and our events help make this possible. All family members can learn new skills while having fun, and improve their health at the same time."
This event is made possible not only by grant dollars, but through donations from Pizza Hut, Options Communications, and Pal Joey's Restaurant, and the participation of King James Restaurant and Saga Dance Studio.
The evening is free of charge, but reservations are strongly suggested. Childcare is provided free for children under age 5 if reservations are made through District #33 school secretaries by September 21.
