Ramey Dismisses Governor’s Self Credit
for Increased Sexual Predator Laws

West Chicago, IL … Campaign commercials used by the Governor to promote family safety has been unsettling for State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream) who sponsored new laws that are discussed in the latest propaganda.

“I have a problem with the Governor taking credit for tougher sexual predator laws that were not even introduced by his own party. Cracking down on sex offenders was an initiative driven by the Republicans during this past session,” Ramey said.

The latest commercial featuring the Governor depicts him with various children while talking about the importance of keeping families safe from sexual predators.

“It is shameful that the Governor is trying to pass on sex crime laws as his own idea when Republicans, like myself, worked very hard to get them passed through the General Assembly,” Ramey said.

In January, Ramey co-sponsored House Bill 4222 that was passed by the General Assembly and signed into law which allows law enforcement to keep better tabs on sexual offenders and predators.

House Bill 4222 requires that if a person must register as a sex offender in Illinois for an act involving a victim under the age of 16, then they must wear an approved electronic monitoring device. The device, which is worn for the duration of the person’s parole or mandatory supervised release term, allows law enforcement officials to identify an offender’s location and presence near prohibited areas.

“We all work hard to protect the families of Illinois, however, credit should be doled out where it is due, not stolen from the opposing party,” Ramey said.
