West Chicago Public Library announces upcoming events
- Introduction to Reiki: The Ancient Art of Hands-On Energy Healing on
Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. Reiki Master, teacher, and practitioner
Wendy Jordan leads a 90-minute seminar exploring the history, applications,
and principles of Reiki.
- Dulcimer Tunes and Tales on Thursday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. Celebrate
the holiday season with an evening of dulcimer music and heartwarming stories,
as performed by Sherri Farley.
- Dog Lady Speaks on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m. Based on her new
book, Sharon will share with you how she got started in quilting, how she
develops her many dog patterns and interprets them into cloth. You will never
look at fabric the same way again.
- Tai Chi & Chai Tea on Thursday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. Visit the West
Chicago Public Library for an evening of Tai Chi and Chai Tea. Join instructor
Dee Kramer of the Tai Chi Chuan Shaolin Chuan Association in St. Charles, to
learn this ancient technique of meditation and exercise. Following the
program, relax with your classmates and enjoy a cup of Chai Tea. Participants
are asked to wear loose fitting clothes, and comfortable shoes.
- Chocolate! On Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. Becky and Robert Untiedt
of Graham’s Chocolates of Geneva will bring their expertise (and samples) for
a truly scrumptious presentation.
- As His Mother Knew Him on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. (Program
sponsored by the Family & Friends of Betty Duriavich In Her Memory) Janet
Gilleland as Nelle Reagan will present her one-woman show on former President
Ronald Reagan through the eyes and thoughts of his mother.
- The West Chicago Public Library is pleased to continue the Adopt a Book
Buddy Program. Every month the photograph of a homeless cat and dog will be
displayed in the Adult Services Department on the second floor. The program
has already resulted in several animal rescues and we hope to have many more!
Adopt a child with special needs for the holidays
- Families and businesses are needed to adopt children with special needs
for the holidays.
- Those adopting a child(ren) are invited to purchase one basic needs item
and one item from a wish list. Limit to spend per child is $30.

Mark your calendars for Frosty Fest
- Frosty Fest will take place on December 3 at Community High School, 326
Joliet Street in West Chicago, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Children will be able
to visit with Santa, Mrs. Claus and Frosty, get their picture taken as well as
participate in a variety of activities and a Secret Santa Shoppe.
- Festivities will continue in downtown West Chicago in the afternoon at the
Library, 118 W. Washington Street, including the Mini-Theater Group Puppet
Show at 1:15 p.m., “This is West Chicago” Art Contest display from 1:00 – 5:00
p.m. and the Community High School Choir at 3:45 p.m.
- The School District 33 Art Show will be held at the Park District office,
157 W. Washington Street from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Art from District 33 and
Wheaton Academy will also be displayed at various downtown businesses.
- A Gallery 200 Holiday Open House will be held from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. with
refreshments at 200 Main Street with art from local artists for sale.
- The Wheaton Academy Choirs will carol on Main Street from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
- The West Chicago City Museum will host a children’s make and take activity
from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at 132 Main Street. The “Local Vision” photo exhibit
will also be on display.
- From 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., there will be an Open House at the Fox Community
Center at 306 Main Street with the Wheaton Academy Choir performing at 4:30
p.m.
- The evening will culminate with a Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Fox
Community Center at 5:00 p.m.
- These events are sponsored by Community High School District 94, City of
West Chicago, West Chicago Chamber of Commerce, West Chicago Public Library
and Wheaton Academy,
