Ramey Co-sponsors Bill to Protect University Independence
West Chicago, IL…State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-St. Charles) has joined a long list of sponsors on a resolution that requires the NCAA to respect institutional autonomy, namely rights pertaining to the University of Illinois.
“In my opinion, the NCAA recently has been harassing the University of Illinois on a number of issues that I don’t believe they should be sticking their noses in,” Ramey said. “That university, as well as any other public university in this state, deserves the same rights and respect as any public institution in this state. The NCAA should not be governing how the university operates.”
Adopted Nov. 2, House Resolution 609, whose primary sponsors are state Rep. David Reis (R-Olney) and Rep. Chapin Rose (R-Champaign), denies the National Collegiate Athletic Association the ability to compromise the sovereignty of the State of Illinois and supports the institutional autonomy of the University of Illinois.
