West Chicago to
conduct preschool screening
- Preschool screening for all children ages 3 to 5
who are not yet in kindergarten and who live in West Chicago Elementary School
District #33 will be held September 8 and 9 for English speaking children.
Screenings are by appointment only.
- All screenings will be held at
Hope
Lutheran
Church, 1S260
Joliet Street, in
West Chicago.
- The free screening is conducted for children who
have not been screened before to identify speech, vision, hearing, learning,
or behavioral needs. Parents are encouraged to bring their age eligible
children even if they do not have concerns.

- Fall program registration has begun for the
following programs at the West Chicago Public Library. The library is located

- Identity Theft - Katie Tennant of the Attorney
General’s Office will present information on this growing, yet poorly
understood crime. Wednesday, September 21 at
7:00 pm.
- Friday Night Comedy… on a Thursday! A 75-minute
comedy show presented by the Improv Commandos on Thursday, September 22 at
7:00 pm.
- Not Paying for College - 16-year financial
services veteran Joseph Orsolini (as seen on CLTV) offers invaluable advice
for the college bound. Wednesday, October 5 at
7:00 pm.
- Vampires! The Creatures of the Night - Author and
renowned vampire authority Martin Riccardo explores the mysteries of vampires
in legend, fantasy, and fact. Wednesday, October 19 at
7:00 pm.
- Grimm’s Grimmest: The Darker Side of Traditional
Fairy Tales - Join Professional storyteller Judith Heineman and accompanist
Daniel Marcotte for an evening of fright! Thursday, October 27 at
7:00 pm.
- Inventing 101 - Edward Kurpieski is the inventor
of the award winning BEAR Backscratcher and has been featured on “The Oprah
Winfrey Show” and “QVC.” He offers a high-energy tour of the inventing
process. Wednesday, November 16 at
7:00 pm.
- Fall Flower Arranging - Skilled horticulturist and
local business owner, Peggy Garvin, of
Garvin
Gardens in
South Elgin, will teach her audience how to design and
construct a beautiful floral centerpiece. Materials fee and advance
registration required. Thursday, November 17 at
7:00 pm.
- Introduction to Reiki: The Ancient Art of Hands-On
Energy Healing - Reiki Master, teacher, and practitioner Wendy Jordan leads a
90-minute seminar exploring the history, applications, and principles of
Reiki. Wednesday, December 21 at
7:00 pm.
- Dulcimer Tunes and Tales - Celebrate the holiday
season with an evening of dulcimer music and heartwarming stories, as
performed by Sherri Farley. Thursday, December 22 at
7:00 pm.
- The West Chicago Public Library is pleased to
introduce the Adopt a Book Buddy program. Every month the photograph of a
homeless cat and dog will be displayed in the Adult Services Department on the
second floor. The program has already resulted in one animal rescue and we
hope to have many more!

205-06 budget approved
- The District 303 Board of Education approved the
2005-06 budget on Monday, gave the green light to beginning the process to
sell working cash bonds, and OK’d a plan to lease computers for the next five
years to begin replacing existing, outdated ones.
