Donations:
Our Chapter continues to give back to the community. At the June meeting, the members voted to remove the $500 cap on donations. At the July meeting we donated $3,000 to the Lions Club for restoration of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument at Oak Wood Cemetery. In August, we donated $1,000 to the Friends of the Museum to sponsor their first fund-raising event, an Antiques Road Show to be held in October at the Community Center. Look for the flyers and posters for more information. We also donated $500 to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. We donated $4,000 to the VOD Scholarship.
Blind Vets Night:
We hosted 19 vets from Hines on August 11, 2005, for dinner, bingo, and conversation. We hope to do this again in October. A great time was had by all.
District 19 Meeting:
We had several representatives at the District 19 meeting. This was our own Sister Terry Adam’s first meeting as District President. She did an excellent job. Look for the 19th District’s web site at www.LDSVFW19.org.
Patriot’s Day:
Don’t forget, September 11th is Patriot’s Day. We’re working on some sort of remembrance. Keep in touch with someone for updates.
Steak Fry:
The next Steak Fry will be September 10th. If you get this in time and can help cut up veggies, be at the Post around noon. It’s best to bring your own knife and cutting board.
DuPage Convalescent Center:
The 4th Annual 5K Run/Family Walk will be held Saturday September 17, 2005, 8:25 am, in Wheaton. That‘s also the date of the Center’s 38th Annual Fall Festival which will be held from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Proceeds benefit the Resident Recreation Fund. Our ladies took the vets out again on August 25th to Old Country Buffet.
Message from the President:
I regret to inform you that Alma Prutzman passed away. The Charter was draped in her honor. Next meeting 9/12/05. See you there!
