Lots of news for a beautiful spring Friday:

• Lincoln Elementary School raised $4,632 for the American Heart Association through its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Last year the school raised $900. Talk about “jumping” ahead! Congratulations to everyone involved for this tremendous accomplishment.

• Looking for something to do this weekend other than watch the Cubs lose (again)? Consider lacrosse: the Second Annual Rocks on the Fox high school lacrosse tournament will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 16 and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17 at St. Charles East High School and the East Side Sports Complex on Kirk Road south of Tyler Road. Twenty-six teams from 20 schools will be playing 63 games on eight fields.

  The St. Charles High School Boys Lacrosse Club, featuring players from both District 303 high schools, will play five times Saturday: the varsity will play at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the East Side Sports Complex; the junior varsity plays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at St. Charles East High.

  On Sunday, both teams play seeded games for the championship: junior varsity at 1 p.m. at St. Charles East; varsity at 2:15 p.m. in the St. Charles East High stadium. Good luck to all.
   

• A quick update on the Elgin/Campton Township annexation issue: District 303 is still in the thick of things. We’ve attended two hearings and expect to be able to read our resolution opposing the development of two subdivisions in Campton Township and their annexation by Elgin at the next Elgin Plan Commission hearing, scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, April 25 at the Hemmens Auditorium in Elgin.

• St. Charles North High School AP biology students, with help from the National Honor Society and Student Council, recently collected and donated over 1,000 books to the Book Worm Angels organization, which provides books to 30 inner city schools in Chicago. Kudos on a wonderful community-minded effort.

• Mid-Valley Hearing Itinerant teacher Sharon Jenkins has been named Membership Chair for the Illinois Teachers of Hard of Hearing/Deaf Individuals. Jenkins will serve on ITHI executive board for the next three years. Congratulations to Sharon on this honor.

• The St. Charles North High School Class of 2005 will host the school’s 2nd annual Father/Daughter, Mother/Son Dance for ALL elementary students in District 303. Tickets are $10/couple and will be available at the door the evening of the event.

• The public is invited to the next meeting of the St. Charles East High School HOPE club (Helping Others Protect Each other) to hear a presentation on date rape by the Elgin Community Crisis Center. The meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005 in the St. Charles East High School Learning Resource Center.

The Community Crisis Center provides 24-hour services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crisis situations. 105 requests for help receive attention from Center professionals on an average day.
