After posting my tirade about beautiful downtown Bartlett, Illionois, I received the following email from a long time West Chicago resident.
| I was offended by what Rich Trzupek wrote about West Chicaco, but I am not going to offend the good people of Bartlett because of Mr. Trzupek who does not know his facts, and has a poor sense of humor, instead I am inviting him to West Chicago for a tour of all the great things our city has to offer. |
How embarrassing! I am humiliated and chastened. This lady has shown me what a mature, responsible, Christian, caring response should be. I feel like I have been caught by my momma with my hand in the cookie jar.
(Now it is time for the smarmy, satirical, untruthful part.)
So, I pointed the car north on 59 partly to see if they had nice folks up there also, but mostly to visit my old friend and mathematical mentor, Fritz "Numbers" Schwartz, to place a bet on whether Mr. Trzupek would take her up on her offer. Numbers has been supporting himself off the gullibility of the local citizens ever since Capone or Dillinger or Machine Gun Kelly shot up the place. Anyhow, I got great odds. However, I had to promise Numbers that if some Bartlett citizen sends an apology to the good folks of West Chicago, I will apologize for my tantrum and post it. More later, I hope.
