Dear Key Communicator:

Looking ahead to next school year (2005-2006), the District anticipates that projected expenses will have to be reduced to achieve a fiscally responsible budget. The Board has been openly discussing options for reducing next year's budget deficit since this school year began, and is working with staff and administration to find the best ways of operating responsibly and effectively. As always, our guiding principle is to make the best use of available funds and do what is best for the children of the community.

We will need to make budget decisions for 2005-2006 very soon. Since thebeginning of this school year, the District has considered and weighed manyoptions and alternatives. Many reductions such as restructuring benefits, lowering energy costs, tightening department budgets, and administrativereorganization should have very little impact on the quality of education. However, we do anticipate that class sizes will be larger next year (withinstructional aides added to the largest classes), and that staffing of someprograms will be somewhat reduced. At the present time there is no proposalto eliminate any programs or special services. Final decisions have not beenmade, but it is anticipated that the Board will have more discussion attheir meeting on January 20 and budget decisions will be made at that time.We will keep you informed of these decisions as they are finalized.

I hope that the information provided has been helpful in understandingbudget planning for next school year in District #33. We are at yourservice, so if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate tocall me, or our superintendent, Dr. Ed Leman at 293-6000 ext. 203, or aboard member.
