Republican Caucus Nominates Wayne Township Candidates

Eight candidates for Wayne Township elected offices were nominated at the Republican Caucus held January 11th at St. Andrews GC in West Chicago. The candidates will appear on the ballot in the April 5th Consolidated Election.

The nominations for Supervisor and Highway Commissioner were contested. In the Supervisor's race, Bill Newell of West Chicago defeated Mary Douglas (Carol Stream) 247-157 with 25 blank/spoiled ballots. Incumbent Highway Commissioner Ken Spitz (Bartlett) defeated Tom Shanahan (Carol Stream) 269-147 with 13 blank/spoiled ballots.

The Caucus was attended by 429 local Republicans. This year's attendance was up 22.6% over the 2001 event's 350 participants.

The nominations for Clerk, Assessor and four Trustees were uncontested. April Murphy (West Chicago) was nominated for Clerk; Michael Musson (Bartlett) for Assessor; and Joan Mruk (West Chicago), Randy Ramey (Carol Stream), Thomas Arends (Bartlett) and Laura Gebis (West Chicago) for Trustee.

The Supervisor nomination was opened by the retirement of two-term incumbent Glenn Auble (Bartlett). Newell is an incumbent Trustee and Douglas is the incumbent Clerk. Spitz, Musson, Mruk and Ramey are all re-nominated incumbents. Murphy, Arends and Gebis are making their first run for public office.
