Senator Peter Roskam is Republican Whip
Springfield, IL – The start of another legislative session marks the beginning of another two years of serving in a leadership post for State Senator Peter Roskam (R-Wheaton) who will again serve as Senate Republican Whip.
Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson (R-Greenville) made the announcement today that he will keep Senator Roskam as part of his leadership team. The Minority Whip serves as a liaison between the Republican leadership and the rest of the Republican members.
“When Senator Roskam arrived in the Senate, everyone agreed that he was an up and coming legislator,” Watson said. “He now is a seasoned State Senator who has the experience to go with his sharp intelligence and brilliant insight. When he speaks on the Senate floor he commands respect from both sides of the aisle and that is not always an easy thing to do. He has done a magnificent job as Senate Republican Whip, and I am glad he will continue to serve in that capacity.”
Senator Roskam served from 1993 to 1999 in the Illinois House of Representatives. In 2000 he replaced outgoing State Senator Beverly Fawell and has served the area ever since.
Roskam said he is looking forward to the challenges of the coming session and to once again serving in a leadership role
“There are some tough issues ahead as we look at addressing the rising costs of Medicaid and working toward a solution to the medical malpractice crisis in the upcoming legislative session,” Roskam said. “I am looking forward to working with the Senate Republican leadership and the other members in shaping public policy on these important issues.”
