ANOTHER ROAD DISTRICT PROPERTY TAX CUT FOR 2005
Wayne Township taxpayers will pay less in Road District property taxes in 2005. Highway Commissioner Ken Spitz sought a 3.25% cut in the property tax levy. The cut was unanimously approved by the Wayne Township Board of Trustees.
"This is the second straight reduction in the levy," said Spitz. "And, the third consecutive rate decrease since 2001."
Spitz requested $1.3 million to fund Road District operations in 2005-06. The levy is the actual number of property tax dollars sought by the Road District. This amount is then apportioned to all Wayne Township parcels according to the assessed valuation. The assessed valuation is generally about one-third of the market value.
"Added to the 5.15% tax levy cut in 2004, our property tax is lower than when I took office in 2001," Spitz told the Board.
Board members asked Spitz if the cut would affect resident services. "This cut comes from part of the surplus we've accumulated through sound financial management," Spitz said. "No service cuts are proposed or required."
"This isn't billions in tax relief as with the federal income tax cut," Spitz notes. "But, I believe every dollar helps."
