The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held on the
1st Thursday of the month, January 6, 2005.

Board Members in attendance: Robert Lemon, Joseph Lach, Chris Scheck, Deborah Ramsey, Sharon Jones, Dave Barclay

Presentations

• Mrs. Becky Koltz, School/Community Relations Specialist, described her duties and activities in keeping the community and district employees informed of issues within West Chicago Elementary School District #33.

Public Participation

• Several parents from Indian Knoll School addressed the Board of Education in reference to budget reductions for next school year.

Action Items

• The Board of Education reviewed a proposed schedule for school fees for next year, and voted to increase school registration fees by 5% for the 2005-2006 school year. All other fees will be considered at the January 20th board meeting.

New Business - Discussion with Possible Future Action

The Board of Education reviewed the following informational items:

• continued discussion on possible scenarios for budget reductions, determining a target budget reduction for 2005-2006 school year, which will help determine staffing and programming for next year
• conducted a second reading on policy 6:65 - "Student Social and Emotional Development"
• the proposed 2005-2006 school calendar as presented by the Calendar Committee
• an outline highlighting the major steps involved in automating the elementary school libraries
• a suggested process/timelines for conducting the superintendent evaluation

Report of District Committee Meetings

• The Board of Education received reports of the Strategic Design Plan Committee meeting of December 17, 2004; and the Legislative Committee.

Review of Upcoming Meetings/Events

• The Board of Education members reviewed upcoming meetings and events.

The next Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 20, 2005, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
