Query Language

The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:

snails tails

finds documents containing "snails" or "tails"

snails or tails

same as above

snails and tails

finds documents containing both "snails" and "tails" ... anything lacking either "snails" or "tails" will not be reported

snails not tails

finds documents containing "snails"' but not "tails" ... A page containing the sentence "snails and puppydogstails" would be found but a document containing "snails and tails" would.

(snails not tails) and sugar

finds documents containing "snails"' but not "tails" that also contain the word "sugar"

tails*

finds documents containing words starting with "tails" such as "tails", "tailspin" or "tailpiece" ... It would not find documents with the word "details."
