     The Music Department at Community High School District #94 in West Chicago will present their Annual Spring Band, Choir and Orchestra Concerts during the month of May.

     Mary Murphy, a sophomore at Community High School District #94 in West Chicago, has been chosen as a recipient of the Congress-Bundestag 2008 Scholarship. As one of 300 students chosen nationally for this honor Mary will live with a German family and study at a German school as a guest of the German government for an entire year. In the history of the Congress-Bundestag Program Mary is Community High School’s 16th student, and the first sophomore, to be chosen for this program.

     As we head into the final months of the 2007-2008 school year, I would like to take the opportunity to provide you with a glimpse of some exciting goals and changes for 2008-2009. I know this letter is lengthy but I believe it is important for you to be aware of the direction that Community High School will be taking to improve the achievement of your son/daughter and the context for which those changes will be taking place.

     On April 11th & 12th seventeen members of the Community High School District #94 West Chicago Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America attended the 2008 State Leadership Conference in Decatur, IL

     Our girls softball program is having a "Cooks Night Off" to raise funds for the program. Gianorio’s Pizza, located in the Prairie Trail Center on the corner of Geneva and County Farm Roads in Winfield is donating 15% of the sales to the softball program on Thursday April 24th and Thursday May 15th. Anything that you purchase on those evenings will be included in the final sales amount. Anything includes but is not limited to frozen pizzas to bring home, entrees, hot orders and desserts. Please support the softball programs by taking a “Cook’s Night Off".      Community High School District #94 in West Chicago represented the State of Illinois and won 2nd place in the 2008 National LifeSmarts Competition. LifeSmarts is known as the ultimate consumer challenge and is sponsored by the National Consumers League. The event was held in Minneapolis on April 12-15.

By a vote of 4-3, the Board approved making Monday of each week a late start day during the 2008-09 school year.

The Board of Education of Community High School District 94 has established a Hall of Honor to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the school, community, or society.

     The faculty and administration of Community High School District #94 would like to congratulate Maria Ortiz of West Chicago for being chosen ‘Student of the Month’ for March 2008. In nominating Maria, one staff member writes, “She is an outstanding worker and is always willing to help staff and students to find books and assist in computer problems. She is self-motivated and will do tasks she sees that need to be done without being asked.”
