“While avoiding a complete government shutdown was necessary, I could not support a budget that continues to spend money that we simply don’t have,” said state Sen. Randy Hultgren (R-Wheaton).
“Clearly some good things came out of this budget, including meeting our pension obligations, providing for additional education funding, and no new taxes. However, a ‘Yes’ vote on this budget would be ratifying the mismanagement of the state over the past three years—paying for bloated programs that continue to operate unchecked. The bottom line is that we have had eight months to come up with a spending plan for Illinois, and I think we, as a governing body, could have done much, much better.”
