The West Chicago Elementary School District 33 Board of Education selected Brenda Vishanoff as their replacement for Martin Swinney at their regular meeting on June 19. Mr. Swinney resigned in May as he has accepted a job offer in Florida.
Brenda Vishanoff was chosen from a pool of five applicants for the open Board seat with an unexpired term ending in April, 2009. Mrs. Vishanoff holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Peabody Music Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, as well as a Bachelor of French Horn Performance and a Graduate Performance Diploma in French Horn. She also holds a Master of French Horn performance from Northwestern University, and she will graduate from Aurora University in July with a Master of Educational Leadership. She has taught at Wheaton Academy for 12 years.
Mrs. Vishanoff has resided in West Chicago for the past nine years with her husband Bob and three children; daughter Rebekah will enter 2nd grade this fall in the Dual Language program at Gary School, son Joshua will enter kindergarten also in the Dual Language program at Gary, and son Ben who is age 3. Last school year, Mrs. Vishanoff worked with parents and staff to create a Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at the Early Learning Center and served as president. Her hobbies include running and travel.
