Community High School District #94’s Wildcat Chronicle has received the coveted Golden Eagle Trophy for the Best In Class 2008 School Newspaper. This honor was awarded by the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press which reviews and rates specific articles, photos, editorials, reviews and columns in addition to entire issues of the school newspaper.
The Wildcat Chronicle also won first place last year. Editor-in-Chief, Jessica Bergmann, received a blue ribbon for photography and an honorable mention for column writing. Sports editor, Greg Vodicka, received an honorable mention for news writing. Reporter, Oscar Grajeda, received an honorable mention for review writing. Jacob Wucka received an honorable mention for editorial cartooning. An anonymous judge said “I got a clear idea of what your school is like, and how bright your journalism students are, from your coverage.”
This award came shortly after the Wildcat Chronicle also received first place from the American Scholastic Press Association. This journalism association reviews full issues. The newspaper staff also received the Gold Medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for last years paper. This association is from Columbia University in New York which awards national ratings based on full issues. Journalism advisor, Laura Kuehn, stated that “Once you get the gold certificate then you are entered into the competition for the Golden Eagle Trophy and best in show. This is the second year in a row we have received best in show!”
The staff includes Editor-In-Chief and news editor Jessica Bergmann of West Chicago, assistant news editor Jacob Wucka of West Chicago, sports editor Greg Vodicka of West Chicago, editorial page editor Jake Bradley of
