STUDENT OF THE MONTH MATT YOUNGWITH

     One of Matt’s teachers writes, “Matthew has been challenging himself academically with both AP Science and Mathematics classes. He has participated in Rocketry and the IIT bridge building contest along with being named by the American Association of Physics Teachers as Physics Student of the Year. Not only has he been on the Honor Roll for all four years of high school, but was inducted into the National Honor Society at the beginning of his junior year.”

     Matt has received the Illinois State Scholar Award, a Math Award his junior year, and been recognized for outstanding achievement in the Civil Air Patrol’s Aerospace Education Excellence Award Program. He has remained in enriched classes throughout his high school career.

     Matt has been very active in sports at Community High School. He has played golf and baseball all four years and basketball during his freshman and sophomore years. He also ran and competed in the indoor track program as a junior. Matt was named “most improved player” during his senior golf season. As a varsity athlete in both golf and baseball, he earned Academic All-Conference and was named a Scholar Athlete.

     Even though Matt is very involved in school activities, he has also strived to balance his life with community service. He has volunteered his time to the Star’s Buddy Baseball program, Morris Service Dog Program, Sports Camp Training for special needs boys, St. Luke’s Catholic Church, DuPage Easter Seals and the American Heart Association.

     Matt plans to attend either Milwaukee School of Engineering or Northern Illinois University to study engineering and play baseball. The administration, faculty and staff at Community High School congratulates Matt on all of his accomplishments and wishes him the best of luck in the future.
