By a vote of 4-3, the Board approved making Monday of each week a late start day during the 2008-09 school year.
The motivating purpose for the proposal was to capture additional staff development time. Areas to be addressed in staff development include the following:
.
Response to Intervention –
a Federally-mandated general education initiative that requires intensive, on-going assessment and intervention team levels in the areas of Reading and Math.
SLC Collaboration –
All teachers of freshmen students in the core disciplines of Math, Science, English and Social Studies will share common groups of students to increase communication and collaboration across disciplines, increase communication regarding student concerns, and increase effectiveness in implementing interventions.
Other Areas –
Immediate critical areas include Reading and Writing across content areas, assessment, homework and grading. The opportunity to meet and to be able to do it frequently to create a professional community that effectively addresses mandates is critical to the success of all students at CHS.
