Sadie Roberts of West Chicago, a junior at Community High School District #94, has been awarded the September PeaceBuilder of the Month.
John Chisholm, Social Studies teacher and the originator of the PeaceBuilder recognition, states that “Sadie is one of the most pleasant students I have taught. She has an upbeat spirit and goes the extra mile to help others. She excels in group situations and often ensures that other students understand what they are doing. She is great at sharing her wealth of knowledge. Sadie is the first to volunteer to assist other students and myself.”
The person who has been a model of peace for Sadie is “My mom. She is always respectful towards everyone. She drops whatever she is doing to help others. My mom does not believe in violence.” Sadie believes that bullying “is a waste of time. If you help people then you feel better about yourself.”
Currently Sadie teaches Sunday School to pre-schoolers, she does community service for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, helps raise thousands of dollars for the People’s Resource Center’s summer food drive, serves food through out the winter season at PADS and is involved with tag days for Loaves & Fishes. Sadie is also on the school’s tennis team.
Sadie’s favorite quote is from Ghandi, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” After graduation Sadie plans on attending college with a major in English and a minor in Business. After she receives her Bachelors Degree she plans on studying to become an ordained pastor.
