West Chicago, Illinois: December 12, 2007 - The West Chicago Police Department announced that Campaign #1 of the Illinois Department of Transportation funded grant was successful in educating the motoring public on Seatbelt Safety and Awareness. The Campaign ran from November 12-25, 2007 and resulted in 220 citations being issued for Seatbelt and Child Restraint violations.
Campaign #1 is the first of five overall campaigns funded by a grant received from the Illinois Department of Transportation. This grant allows the West Chicago Police Department to re-hire Officers to provide traffic enforcement for child restraint, seatbelt, speeding, and alcohol related violations. This grant started in October, and will end September 30, 2008.
Campaign # 2 will begin on December 17, 2007 and run through January 1, 2008. A continuing effort will be made citywide to make roadways safer by enforcing these violations and educating the public on seatbelt safety and awareness.
