Wayne Matejka
Deputy Chief Wayne Matejka is retiring after 42 years of service with the West Chicago Fire Protection District. Although many changes occurred during this time, one factor has remained consistent—his devotion to his job. “This is not just a job to me, but a commitment, said Wayne. “I have always wanted to be a firefighter and help people.”

Berkes Obituary
Robert B. Berkes, age 90, passed away on Thursday, August 21st at Arden Courts Assisted Living in Geneva. Robert was born in West Chicago on March 15, 1918 to Mary and Anthony Berkes. He graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School and was a 1936 graduate of West Chicago High School. After serving in the Army for 4 years, he returned to West Chicago where he began a long career with Northern Illinois Gas Company.
