     Much has been happening in District 33 in recent days. We have a great deal to share with you... * Board of Education Vacancy - Mr. Martin Swinney recently resigned from the Board of Education as he, and his family, are relocating to Florida. A new board member must be appointed by the June 19, 2008 board meeting. The vacancy is for an 11 month unexpired term. Interested persons may pick up an information packet at the District Office, and then submit a letter of interest by Friday, May 30 to the attention of Board of Education president Dave Barclay at the following address: West Chicago Elementary School District 33 312 E.      The musical ‘Grease’ will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on May 15th, 16th & 17th in the Weyrauch Auditorium at Community High School in West Chicago. This musical, set in a 1950’s high school, will feature the hit songs “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You’re The One That I Want.”

     Students from Community High School District #94 in West Chicago were invited to participate in an on-line news forum hosted by Judy Woodruff of the News Hour on PBS. The forum was aired on April 25th, 2008.

     The Carol Stream Rotary Club awarded a $2,000 grant to Community High School District #94 at the April 22nd Board of Education meeting. This grant was part of the Carol Stream Cares program developed by the Rotary Club to support student volunteerism. President elect Ann Kennedy, Secretary Robert McNees, International Service Director Jim Baily and member Deb Haude presented the grant to support the WeGo 2 Africa program.

     The faculty and administration of Community High School District #94 in West Chicago would like to congratulate Matt Youngwith for being chosen Student of the Month for April 2008.

     The Music Department at Community High School District #94 in West Chicago will present their Annual Spring Band, Choir and Orchestra Concerts during the month of May.

     Wheaton Academy has hired a new business/computer science teacher. Along with that hire, they have found their coach to lead the successful girls’ soccer program. Scott Marksberry will replace Dave Underwood as the Wheaton Academy girls’ head soccer coach. Underwood is leaving at year’s end to take over the head coaching duties for the Sterling College mens’ soccer team in Sterling, Kansas.

     Mary Murphy, a sophomore at Community High School District #94 in West Chicago, has been chosen as a recipient of the Congress-Bundestag 2008 Scholarship. As one of 300 students chosen nationally for this honor Mary will live with a German family and study at a German school as a guest of the German government for an entire year. In the history of the Congress-Bundestag Program Mary is Community High School’s 16th student, and the first sophomore, to be chosen for this program.

     Wheaton Academy will feature a former Chicago Bear, the 2007 Division III women’s soccer Player of the Year, and a member of the Brazilian women’s national U-20 soccer team as part of the groundbreaking ceremony for the future Heritage Field House on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m.
