Kirk Johnson, a 1998 CHS graduate, will be featured on 60 Minutes this Sunday, May 18th at 6 p.m. on Channel 2. Kirk’s work with The List Project, which he founded and directs, will be highlighted. The List Project works on resettling, to the USA, those Iraqis who were employees of the U.S. in Iraq during the present war.

Community High School students are looking for community donations of school, recreational and medical supplies to be sent in a shipping container to the school in Angola, Africa that CHS built. The shipping container is part of the WeGo 2 Africa project that is led by the Community Leadership class.

We will be doing some pilot testing with our Edline pages and grading system for the remainder of the school year beginning this Friday, May 16th. The pilot test will include a process by which we automate the posting of available grades through our MIS department on a weekly basis to Edline. Our hope is to provide more frequent grading information on Edline so that you have the opportunity to be informed of your son/daughter’s progress. Please keep several things in mind as we test out this automation process.

A team of students from Community High School District #94 in West Chicago were awarded first place in the Regional Stock Market Competition. These students will also be recognized with the Annual Cabrera Statewide Award. The Cabrera Award provides a trip to New York City for the winning student team, and their teacher, so they are able to visit the New York Stock Exchange and other notable financial sites.

The Partnership Committee of Community High School District #94 in West Chicago sponsored a week long 2008 Job Fair for the students of CHS. Several organizations spent many hours talking with students. They discussed what their job expectations are and directed the students on how to apply for specific jobs. Many students took advantage of this opportunity by visiting the booths, asking questions and taking available information.

Our girls softball program is having a "Cooks Night Off" to raise funds for the program. Gianorio’s Pizza, located in the Prairie Trail Center on the corner of Geneva and County Farm Roads in Winfield is donating 15% of the sales to the softball program on Thursday April 24th and Thursday May 15th. Anything that you purchase on those evenings will be included in the final sales amount. Anything includes but is not limited to frozen pizzas to bring home, entrees, hot orders and desserts. Please support the softball programs by taking a “Cook’s Night Off". You are welcome to copy/email this flyer and pass along to your friends and Gianorio’s will also have them there. We have a great deal to share with you... * Board of Education Vacancy - Mr. Martin Swinney recently resigned from the Board of Education as he, and his family, are relocating to Florida. A new board member must be appointed by the June 19, 2008 board meeting. The vacancy is for an 11 month unexpired term. The musical ‘Grease’ will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on May 15th, 16th & 17th in the Weyrauch Auditorium at Community High School in West Chicago. This musical, set in a 1950’s high school, will feature the hit songs “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You’re The One That I Want.”

The Carol Stream Rotary Club awarded a $2,000 grant to Community High School District #94 at the April 22nd Board of Education meeting. This grant was part of the Carol Stream Cares program developed by the Rotary Club to support student volunteerism. President elect Ann Kennedy, Secretary Robert McNees, International Service Director Jim Baily and member Deb Haude presented the grant to support the WeGo 2 Africa program.
