A NOTE FROM ALDERMAN DAVID J. SABATHNE

My opponent says that because I am a paid employee of the West Chicago Chamber of Commerce, I have a "conflict of interest" and I am "prohibited from voting on many important business-related matters".

City attorneys under two administrations have researched this and found that there is No Conflict of Interest, simply because I am employed by the chamber.

During my ten years as your Alderman, I have voted on Thousands of issues and Hundreds while employed by the chamber. I have only abstained from three (3) issues related to my employment.

  1. When the city paid their annual membership dues to the chamber. I abstained from vote.

  2. When employees attended a chamber event where a fee was charged. I abstained from vote

  3. When the chamber was asked by the city to organize and run the Mexican Heritage festival. I did not participate in council discussions on plan approval and did not vote.

For decades, the city has had council members who, from time to time, would abstain on issues related to employment.  This is not new and will not likely change. More importantly, do you truly believe that my not voting on the above three issues constitutes "many business-related matters"?

Vote for Results, Not Promises.
Thank you.
